Sexy?? Ignorant??
“The question should be, is it worth trying to do, not can it be done.”
Allard Lowenstein
Student organizer and member of the House of Representatives for one term.
I bought a domain today. I bought www.toosexyforyourignorance.comm.
I am an American with a Disability. I am one of those people who the ADA was written to help.
I am also one of those people who spends a significant amount of time making “ignorant” people comfortable with my very presence.
I suspect I’m not alone on this one. I’m cool with being in a body that isn’t like most people’s bodies. My biggest problem is the reactions of the rest of the world- both passive and deliberate ones- that no ADA will ever change. The kind of change that would ensure equality of opportunity for people with disabilities would be a tremendous social shift from seeing disability as a tragedy or people with disabilities as inspirations.
Seriously, if you are going to call me an inspiration let it be because I am determined to better myself- not because I have the courage to go out of my house.
(Though there are certainly days where that does in fact require courage...)
